Fleeting Vibrance
The fleeting nature of all things gives life its meaning. The trees in this image, whose yellow color only exists for a couple of weeks every year, is a reminder of this reality.
Description
Title: Fleeting Vibrance (Autumn 2024)
Location: North Cascades National Park (Washington, USA)
About: I sometimes joke that I would like to be a tree. And why wouldn’t I? Trees are grounded and strong, wise and ever-changing. Frequently I choose to wear colors in my photos that blend in with my environment, a demonstration of the kinship and belonging I feel in nature. In this image, I blend in so well with my environment that I almost disappear if you’re not looking closely.
These trees, known as larches, are green for most of the year. Their needles turn into a vibrant yellow for only a couple of weeks in the fall, and then they drop. The trees become bare, and the process begins again in the spring with newly grown green needles. To witness larches in their yellow state is to see something that is beautiful because of its temporary state. These trees are a reminder that all things come to an end, and that’s what makes them special.
